Petrofac Training Services delivers the full range of marine training to the oil and gas and maritime industries. Our state-of-the-art Aberdeen Marine Training Centre offers delegates a safe, controlled environment. It can even be altered to accommodate a client’s own equipment, as we did for Marathon Oil UK.

We worked with Marathon Oil in 2010, following its purchase of new lifeboats for its North Sea Brae platforms. The operator had to be certain that existing staff would be safe and effective when using the boats. It was our task to design and deliver bespoke familiarisation training for Marathon Oil coxswains.

For authenticity, Marathon Oil provided us with one of the actual boats for training purposes. By altering our davit, we were able to safely install this at the Marine Training Centre.

To instil competency in all areas, our comprehensive training programme covered:

• boat familiarisation
• training and assessment in coxswain checks
• launch and recovery exercises
• boat handling
• compass steering
• towing
• man overboard recovery

We delivered training to 44 delegates in total during March and April. We also wrote pre-launch checks for the new lifeboats. Our tailored programme proved a great success, with competence achieved by existing coxswains in the safe and effective operation of the boats.
