Hi-Con training from NASA's JSC

In December 2011 an entirely unique, industry approved survival training facility was introduced to the US market. Petrofac Training Services entered into a strategic partnership with Raytheon Technical Services to deliver survival training to the oil and gas industry, from NASA’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston.

Together with Raytheon, we have developed “Hi-Con training”. This is a unique level of survival training delivered from a world renowned location by a team of experts that bring superior experience in high-consequence and immersive survival and safety training.

NASA’s underwater training facility at the JSC is the most advanced in the world. The 6.2 million gallon, 40-foot deep pool was originally designed to support space-walk planning, testing and training, using full-scale mock-ups of the International Space Station and Space Shuttle. The immense scale is matched by its technological sophistication. While the pool continues to support NASA’s space program, designated areas have been assigned to meet the needs of the Hi-Con survival training program.

Hi-Con Survival Training at NASA’s JSC in Houston includes:

  • OPITO approved Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET)
  • OPITO approved Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET)
  • OPITO approved Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET)

These are three core offshore survival training courses that are delivered throughout the oil and gas industry worldwide.

Moving forward, our partnership with Raytheon will also expand into the delivery of Emergency Response and Crisis Management training for the oil and gas and other industry sectors, by using the on-site test control rooms.
